This is a set of World War I era Model 1908 binoculars made by Spindler & Hoyer of Gottingen, Germany. The aluminum body of the binoculars is completely missing the original paint. The aluminum has taken on a steel gray appearance. The brass lense caps on either end have achieved a nice chocolate brown patina. The glass in these old binoculars is perfect! This isn't a crack, spot, smudge or anything on them, clear as the day they were made. The eye cups are bakelite, and unfortunately the right one is missing. The bino's are 4 1/2" long, perfect for trench warfare. The binoculars have a maximum width of 4 3/4". The optics are fantastic with this set. The image is very clear and not distorted or cloudy. The leather neck strap is still attached to the binoculars. The cardboard case these came in is not the original case. This set should be housed in a leather case that was worn on a belt. The case is pretty well used up, The leather strap to secure the case closed is missing, the leather strap to secure the top of the case to the body of the case is broken. The strap on the top of the case is missing, as well as the shoulder strap. That being said, these would look great in a WWI German officer's or trench warfare display.
