Spanish American War Infantry Cook Brassard
Item #: AA3275
This is an Infantry Cook Brassard authorized from the Indian Wars through the Spanish American War. The tan color indicates that this brassard was intended for the Spanish American war. Soldiers who were assigned special duty as cooks, or assistants to the cook were authorized to wear these brassards. The brassard is made of tan cotton twill with a cutout in the shape of a chef's hat, backed in white cotton. It measures 10 1/2" wide and 5" tall. The cook was authorized to wear one brassard on each sleeve. If the enlisted man was a corporal or above, the brassards were worn just below the rank insignia. These are pretty rare and come out of the old Bannerman collection. They would go great on a Span Am display.
