This is a civilian wool blanket from the Civil War period. It is made of undyed Kersey weave wool and is made of two panels joined midseam. The edges of the blanket are bound, and the ends are machine hemmed. This one measures 50" x 69". The two sections are hand sewn together, and there are a couple of spots about 2" each where the stitching has broken. The remaining stitching is still very strong. Each end of the blanket has a series of bluish green stripes arranged in a series of 3 1/4" wide stripes, a 1" wide strip, two 1/4" wide stripes and a 1/2"wide stripe. There is staining and damage to the material on both edges and along one end of the blanket. Not sure what caused the stain, but that's also where the material is damaged. Even with the couple spots of broken stitching and the stains and damage this blanket still makes a very good example of a civilian made blanket from the Civil War period.
