This is a Japanese Shin Gunto sword guard (tsuba) from World War II. The tsuba was in with some other pieces of a Pacific theater veteran that came in from the local area. I'm not sure what this one is made from, but a magnet will not stick to it. It measures 2 3/4" across and has some etching with gold leaf on one side of the guard. This one probably came from a broken or destroyed sword, and somebody picked it up for a souvenir.
