This is a Vietnam era US tomahawk made by the American Tomahawk Company. The American Tomahawk Company was founded in 1966 by president Peter LaGana, a WWII Marine, in 1966. LaGana realized the importance of a close combat melee weapon for the jungle fighting of Vietnam. His company produced thousands of them that were purchased by the US military. This dark green, Type II, Vietnam Tomahawk was used for a myriad of jobs such as trench work, clearing landing zones for helicopters, and of course combat. This tomahawk measures 13 3/4" tall and is 8 1/4" wide. The unique wedge characteristic of the LaGana tomahawk retains the head to the haft quite well. The leather sheath is unmarked and in good condition. Many people associate the tomahawk with the Special Forces, but all branches of the US Military used them. This one is in very good condition and will enhance any Vietnam display or collection.
