This is a powder flask made from a cow horn from the early 1800's. The horn measures 7" in length, 2" across the butte plug and 1/2" across the spout. The horn has aged nicely and shows no cracks, splits or insect damage. The butte plug is held secure with three brass pins. The suspension strap is present, but I believe it is a later period replacement. The spout plug is present for duty on this horn! The size of this one makes me think this one was carried with a long rifle. There are no designs or names carved into the horn. This horn came out of Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
