Grand Army of the Republic souvenir medal from the 27th National Encampment held in Indianapolis, In. during September 1893. The overall length is 4 1/4", with the broach being 1 1/2" wide. The ribbon is 1 3/4" long, 1 5/16" wide and the red, white and blue colors are still very vibrant! Gold lettering on the ribbon shows the GAR symbol in the center with 27th NAT'L ENCAMPMENT above it and INDIANAPOLIS, IND. SEPT 1893 below it. The medallion is 1 1/2' across. On the front of the medal is a Union infantryman in front of the capitol building. On the perimeter is written 27th ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT 1893. On the back of the medal is an eagle clutching two cannon barrels with the American flag suspended from them. At the bottom of the flag is the Medal of Honor. On the perimeter is written FRATERNITY CHARITY LOYALTY 1861 1865. The only detractor to this one is the pin in missing from the back. It still displays great and if your GAR badge collection is missing this one don't pass it up!
