The Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War was organized in 1883 and endorsed by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in 1884. This is a National encampment badge from the 48th National Encampment of the Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. This encampment was held in Rochester, New York from 12-16 August, 1934. The badge is 4 3/8" tall, with the header being 1 9/16"" wide. The header is quite elaborate in design, depicting the Rochester city skyline at the top and railroad tracks at the bottom left with the High Falls of the Genesee River at the bottom right. The New York Excelsior emblem is superimposed in the center of the header. The yellow ribbon with silver lettering is in very good condition and still has vibrant colors. The medallion suspended from the header is the symbol of the Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. This is an excellent example of an Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War National encampment badge from the early 1900's, and will go well with any GAR or Auxiliary collection.
