This is a mid 1800's half stock percussion fowling piece. The overall length is 45", with the barrel measuring 29 3/4" in length. The barrel and all iron hardware have the same dark patina. The barrel exterior, to include the barrel tang, has a smooth appearance with light scattered pitting. There are a couple of small patches of surface rust, on the tang, in the bolster area and on the bottom of the barrel. The bore measures 12 gauge and is dark with light pitting and light surface rust throughout the length of the barrel. There are no visible proof marks or stamps on the exterior of the barrel, or anywhere else for that matter. The bottom of the barrel is stamped with K/56, the only stamp on the gun. There is no rear sight and doesn't look as if there ever was one. The front sight is a small iron blade type approximately 3/8" from the muzzle. The barrel is retained by a single tang screw and one escutcheon pin, made of wood. The lock plate has no markings at all. The action needs some work. The hammer will only hold in the cocked position if the trigger is manually reset after each firing. The lock measures 5 11/16" in length and 1 1/4" in width. It has been converted from flint to percussion using the drum conversion. The lock plate, hammer, bolster, nipple and trigger guard have the same patina as the barrel. It's obvious this one has been together for a long time. The trigger guard is very plain, same as the lock plate. The stock is in pretty good condition, and has a dark appearance to match the iron hardware. It shows the usual bumps and dings from normal handling, but is in very good condition. There is one crack in the stock, between the barrel tang and the lock. There is no major wood loss anywhere, and the barrel channel retains crisp edges. The stock has been shortened back to the lower ramrod thimble. The ramrod itself is missing. There is a sling swivel on the back of the trigger guard finial, and a make shift sling swivel of an iron loop just behind the ramrod thimble. This will make for a great wall hanger in your man cave, over the mantle of your cabin or on the wall of your home office!
