This is a Knight's Templar membership medal from the late 1800's to early 1900's. In order to become a Knight's Templar the individual first has to be a member in good standing in a regular Masonic Lodge and hold the 7th degree in the York Rite of Masonry, called the Royal Arch Degree. Once accepted as a Knight's Templar this medal is conferred, a white enamel Maltese cross with gold trim suspended from a black ribbon. The center of the cross has an American military style eagle and the words E Pluribus Unum in an arc above the eagle. These medals have been around since the 1870's. This one is in good condition, the ribbon has no flaws at all. There is one small spot where the white enamel has chipped away on the Maltese cross. If you collect Knight's Templar memorabilia this is a prime candidate for you!
