The United Spanish War Veterans organization was the result of three large Span-Am veterans groups merging in 1904. It's members were veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine American War and the China Relief Expedition. This USWV badge is a delegates badge for William H. Hopkins of Camp #27 who attended the 30th Annual Encampment of the Department of Colorado held in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1937. The badge is 5 1/2" tall, with the ribbon being 1 5/8" wide. This hanger is made from thin tin that has been copper plated. It depicts the sun rising over Pike's Peak with the words THE PIKES PEAK REGION above the scene and COLORADO SPRINGS THE CITY OF SUNSHINE below it. Below the mountains is a paper name plate that has WM. H. HOPKINS/#27 typed on it. The ribbon is red and yellow with the words DELEGATE/3oth ANNUAL/ENCAMPMENT/DEPT. OF COLO./U.S.W.V./AND AUXILIARY/COLO. SPRINGS/JUNE 4-5, 1937 in gold printed on it. The cooper colored hanger has some awesome eye appeal. The ribbon is in good condition, having no tears, just slight fraying at the bottom of the yellow section. The back of the hanger does not have a maker mark. This 30th Annual Encampment delegate's badge displays great, and will enhance any USWV collection.
