This is a mantle/parlor clock made by the E. Ingraham Company of Bristol, Connecticut around the 1870-1880 time period. Elias Ingraham was a cabinet maker and designer of clock cases. He opened a shop in Bristol, Connecticut in 1831. By the time of his death in 1885 the company had grown to five factories and had over 500 employees, producing 250,000 clocks annually. The Ingraham Company remained in operation under the family control until 1956, and closed it's doors permanently in 1967. This Ingraham mantle clock is made of carved walnut, is 21 3/4" tall, 14 3/4" at it's widest point and is 4 3/4" deep. The wooden case is in good condition, having no cracks, splits or missing pieces. There are two main springs, so the clock chimes on the half hour and on the hour. The 8 day movement still works, but it seems to loose about five minutes per hour. The paper face of the clock is in good condition, but does show it's age. Printed at the bottom of the face is "MADE BY THE E. INGRAHAM CO. BRISTOL, CONN. U.S.A." The glass door has a patriotic military motif painted on it in gold leaf. This clock most likely belong to a Civil War veteran, and is in remarkable condition for it's age. The clock comes with one key to wind the springs. This would look great in your war room or elsewhere in the house for that matter!
