This is a wooden keg used to store gunpowder from the 1850's - 1860's period. The keg is made up of 14 wooden staves with willow hoops on the ends. One end of the keg has a hole to pour the powder from, the cork plug is rattling around inside the keg. The other end has a partial paper label on it. The label is damaged, but it clearly identifies this one as being sold by the Hazard Powder Company of Hazardville, Connecticut. The keg, measuring 10 1/2" tall and 8 1/4" across, will look great with a Kentucky long rifle display.
