This is a Union Artillery fuse wrench from the Civil War. This artillery implement is 5 1/2" in length, with the wooden handle measuring 5 1/4". The hand forged iron spanner wrench is attached to the wooden handle by means of a washer peen. The spanner jaws measure \3/4" across on the inside, 1 1/8" across the outside. I'm not a shell guy, so I'm not sure which fuses this wrench fits, let alone the shell. The wrench was used to install and remove the metallic fuses used on the shells. The handle is incised with the letters US. It is in overall good condition. The iron wrench part is rust free. The wooden handle shows plenty of use, but is not cracked anywhere. This one will make a fine addition to any artillery collection.
