This is the face of a Federal eagle breast plate and a .54 caliber Sharps carbine bullet recovered on private property near the Stones River Battlefield in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, that took place from 31 December, 1862 through 2 January, 1863. The breast plate is missing the lead back. There are a couple of explanations for that, it could have fallen out, it got too close to a fire and melted, or it was removed by the soldier and melted to cast bullets. The bullet is in dropped condition, and the lead has turned white from being in the ground over 150 years! These relics were recovered and last sold by Larry Hicklen of Middle Tennessee Relics. This is a nice, inexpensive little set that could be the start of a young Civil War buffs collection!
