This is a scabbard (saya) tip (kojiri) from a Japanese Shin Gunto scabbard used during World War II. It is made of copper and shows traces of having gold wash applied, then having been painted over top of the gold wash. The paint, either a dark green or black, was most likely used to camouflage the scabbard fittings for carry in a combat zone. It measures 3 1/2" tall and 1 1/2" wide. This was in with some WWII Pacific theater items that I recently picked up, but there was no information with it. Apparently it was brought back from the veteran as a souvenir. It makes a cool little desk decoration.
