This is possibly the leather remains of a Civil War artillery drivers saddle. I have not been able to positively identify this piece, so any help from the studio audience would be appreciated. This thing has been hanging around the shop for a long time, not even sure where it came from. It resembles a Grimsley or even a Jennifer saddle leather skirts. The skirts measure 12 1/2" wide and are 16" long. The gussets for the stirrup straps, as well as the leather for the seat, were stitched on after the skirts were formed. All the stitching is solid and unbroken. The leather is in good condition. Hopefully one of you out there will recognize this for what it is and let me know!
