This is a barracks bag, sometimes referred to as a laundry bag, used by Staff Sergeant Raymond A. Slocum during World War II. SSG Slocum was assigned to the 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. The 307th Engineers trace their lineage back to World War I, when they were also assigned to the 82nd Division. The battle honors for this "All American" Engineer unit include: WWI Meuse-Argonne, St. Mihiel, and Lorraine 1918. WWII Sicily with arrowhead, Naples, Normandy with arrowhead, Rhineland with arrowhead, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. These grunts with shovels, that's what I call engineers to get on their nerves, were also involved in Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Defense of Saudi Arabia, Liberation and Defense of Kuwait, and Afghanistan. SSG Slocum served during WWII. This barracks bag of his is dirty and stained, but is not damaged. It's a safe bet to say that Slocum used this in the field way more than he ever did in the barracks. This would be a nice personal touch to a European theater display.
