This is a one piece vest size Regiment of Infantry flat button from the 1810 - 1820's period. There is no back mark on the button. The button is in good condition. It has a script letter I with small loops on the face and an oval with a small five point star. There are many examples of these buttons attributed to being used during the War of 1812. It is made of cast pewter and has a seam line on the back near the shank. The shank is securely attached, but is leaning slightly to one side. The button has a very nice chocolate patina. I have no history as to where this one was excavated. It will make a nice addition to any button collection.
