This is a PX keepsake table cover from Camp Livingston, Louisiana from the World War II era. The table cover is red in color with gold writing and gold and red fringe all the way around the perimeter. The cover measures 33" x 33" and has U.S. ARMY in gold lettering in an arc above the Army Eagle. Below the eagle also in an arc of gold lettering is CAMP LIVINGSTON, LA. These were sold to the soldiers training there before deployment overseas as keepsakes and remembrance items. Most were purchased and sent home to family members. This little table cover is in mint condition, no problems at all. Camp Livingston was in operation from 1940 though 1945. it was named after Robert R. Livingston, a negotiator of the Louisiana purchase. The camp was an Infantry replacement training center, as well as being garrisoned by the 28th, 32nd 38th and 86th Infantry Divisions. Over 500,000 troops were trained on the base during the war. In addition to training Infantry soldiers, the camp was also used to intern Japanese, Italian and German prisoners of war. This excellent example of GI sweetheart and PX homefront items would look great in any home front display!
